Hey Kav, good luck with your habits too! I was toying with adding a similar one, sit on my meditation stool after getting out of bed, but decided for this week to keep it simple. WHo knows, with motivation running high this week other habits might also form :)

David,
I'm doing it next week as well and mine are even simpler if you can believe it!
After I pick up my bag I will pick up my bicycle helmet and roll up my pant leg.
After getting out of bed I will unroll the yoga mat and sit on it for 10 seconds.
After getting into my bed I will write one sentence.

I tried to make sure I didn't have to do any pesky thinking at the start. These are also only the beginning of several larger habits I'd like to develop, namely bicycling more, exercising first thing in the morning, and reflecting on my day.

Best of luck and thanks for the great write up,
Kav

Assuming that like me, you didn't win on Saturday, I only hope that instead you had a good day regardless, and that you make the most of every day. Because while there will always be another lottery draw, none of us can know if we'll be around to see it. I don't take that as a pessimistic view, just a reminder to make the most of every day as if it were your last :)

Now I have a draft paper to write that's due tomorrow. I wonder if I'll make it ;)

Comment on What do people look for when they search online for learning resources? by Edward, Teachable

We've done a fair amount of user research on searching for <a href="http://www.teachable.net" rel="nofollow">teaching resources at Teachable</a>. I'd totally agree that Google-visibility is the most important aspect, and too many educational repositories still expect their users to wade through advanced search features when the vast majority would rather use simple keyword search.

However, i'd disagree about the usefulness of user reviews (although they need to be implemented in a simple way). Search engines are increasingly turning to user recommendations to sort the wheat from the chaff. For example, our most popular search '<a href="http://www.teachable.net/physics/forces-and-motion" rel="nofollow">teaching forces</a>' returns over 100 results. We are sure user reviews are an easier was of filtering those than file type, keywords etc

Hi David

REally interesting presentation on the survey that you did. I was particularly interested to see that only 18% say that knowing the context/audience of a learning object is important . Being clear about how/why a learning object was first created has been important to me up until now, so it's interesting to see that maybe teachers don't really need that level of information.

I'm interested in where your sample came that is what kind of institutions your respondents came from, and how they were selected. We had some similar conclusions based our focus groups and surveys of US higher education instructors, though we had little focus on OER, respondents did have concerns about issues of copyright and its impact on use. We are about to launch another study with a focus on STEM undergraduate students. I look forward to seeing your work.
